The Solatube® construction is of the best quality. Starting with the dome that is made of a heavy duty polycarbonate, able to withstand missile speeds of 51 feet per second, making hail a non-issue. The flashing is made of a single piece of molded aluminium, which slides up under the shingles just like all the other flashing on your roof, and because the flashing is one piece, there is no place for the water to enter the flashing. The reflective pipe has a 99.7% specular reflectance which is the highest on the market and provides the flexibility to do long runs. We have done long runs of over 20' down into a lower level bathroom. And finally, the lens is a two paned lens, providing the Solatube® with an EnergyStar rating, a first for tubular skylights.
